12 New Assemblypersons Sworn in at War Memorial to Begin 222nd Legislative Session

Kicking off the new 222nd Legislative session, 12 new Assemblypersons were sworn in at the Trenton War Memorial on January 13.

Please note that all bills not receiving legislative approval by noon on 1/13, when the new session commenced, will need to be re-introduced and begin the legislative process again. Outgoing Governor Murphy has ten days (not including Sunday) to sign the many bills on his desk, or they receive what is called a pocket veto and also must begin at the beginning in the new session.

The Legislature already announced leadership will remain primarily the same with Craig Coughlin as Speaker of the Assembly for his 5th term, and a record, as Speaker, and Nick Scutari as Senate President. NJACP will inform members of any changes to Assembly committees of interest.

The 12 new Assemblypersons, all Democrats, will contribute to a 57-23 Democratic majority, their largest majority since 1973.

New Assemblypersons are listed below:

Maureen Rowan (D-Atlantic City); Anthony Angelozzi (D-Hammonton); Ed Rodriguez (D-Elizabeth); Andrew Macurdy (D-Summit); Vincent Kearney (D-Garwood); Marisa Sweeney (D-Morristown); Chigozie Onyema (D-Newark); Jerry Walker (D-Jersey City); Ravi Bhalla (D-Hoboken); Katie Brennan (D-Jersey City); Larry Wainstein (D-North Bergen); and Kenyatta Stewart (D-Paterson).
