NJACP Board of Directors with Former Ohio Governor John Kasich

Former Ohio Governor John Kasich was the featured speaker at NJACP’s first Executive Leadership Forum which took place on Friday, September 22, 2023. With more than one hundred in attendance, Governor Kasich talked extensively about the innovative work that was undertaken in Ohio in regard to the IDD community.

For example, a line item was included in every annual state budget for technology in the IDD community. He also noted that it was the state that solicited employers in an effort to place all individuals in the IDD community that sought employment. Governor Kasich clearly recognized the critical role that providers play in serving the IDD community and the challenges faced with overregulation, staffing shortages and a lack of understanding of the unique needs of those with IDD.

Valerie Sellers, NJACP’s CEO, noted “When serving as Governor of Ohio, John Kasich demonstrated an understanding of, and commitment to, the IDD community and there are valuable lessons to be learned from his leadership.”
